ANNUAL UPPER MURRAY CHRISTMAS SALE REVIEW
740 HEAD SOLD
“BIG
YARDING STRONG LOCAL DEMAND”
Costello Rural’s annual Upper Murray cattle sale, held at
Corryong last week, proved small selling centres can still attract sizzling
competition with locally bred stock selling, on average, $100 dearer than last
year.
Principal Justin Costello was thrilled with the result which
saw steers sell to a high of $2.75/kg and an average of $2.40/kg for weaners.
Heifers also sold well for an average of $2.15/kg with
strong demand for beef heifers driven by a Tasmanian buyer.
The total yarding was 740, 150 head up on last year.
“Weaner cattle have proven to be a huge success in this
feature sale with many local and regional buyers wanting to secure proven lines
of steers and females,” Mr Costello said. “Overall it was very high quality
yarding and there was strong competition for all lines of cattle.”
To follow up their success, Costello Rural will hold a new
Upper Murray feature sale in April, next year.
“We feel local producers want to support local sales.
Selling here, cattle have shorter distances to travel, are off feed for less
time and endure less stress. Our facilities are well maintained by Towong Shire
Council so it makes sense to use them,” Mr Costello said.
